The BAT 1K project is an initiative to sequence the genomes of all living bat species, approximately 1300 species in total. The BAT 1K consortium required a website to be the hub of this world wide collaborative effort.
The website communicates the aims of the project, and also allows researchers to sign up to the project through a detailed form. This form, using cascading fields, allows users to select the specific bat species that they are working on from a list of approx. 1300 entries.
The website also has an online database of all bat species. This database has a simple, spreadsheet type interface, allowing project members to quickly and easily update the database as the project evolves.
